What started out as a routine bladder lifting procedure turned into a battle against stage 4 cancer in less than a month. This past January, my mother, Mimi, received the shocking news that she had stage 4 uterine cancer. Despite feeling perfectly fine, her world—and ours—was turned upside down.
The surgery to combat this aggressive cancer lasted an agonizing 10 hours. While waiting anxiously for updates, Linda, the creative force behind Linda Allard Jewelry, found solace and focus in her work. During those tense hours in the waiting room, she began designing a piece on her iPad that would eventually become the Mimi Cat pendant, named in honor of my mother. This adorable and resilient cat captures my mother's indomitable fighting spirit.
At the age of 76, Mimi faced her cancer battle with unparalleled courage. The surgery left her with 48 stitches and the need for intensive rehab. Yet, to everyone’s amazement, she was back home in less than two weeks, ready to tackle her recovery head-on. With regular visits from occupational and physical therapists, she quickly regained her strength. Mimi’s determination saw her through a grueling six-round course of heavy chemotherapy. Today, she is in the maintenance phase of her treatment with no visible signs of cancer and an excellent prognosis.
